We were wrong about rats spreading the Black Death plague

Truth Bombs: You may be asking yourself, “Why is this article on Truth Bombs?” I’m glad you asked. This is a classic example of how revisionist history gets started. The idea that rats caused the plague was completely based on the idea that medieval man was an ignorant, unsanitary person. Therefore rats overwhelmed the population and cause the spead of the disease. It is history based on an unfounded presupposition so we create myths about history to support our biases. We do the same with evolution, the civil war, the Exodus, the witch burnings and many other historical examples.

Article: Plague came to Europe in the 14th century and rapidly conquered the continent. The pandemic, one of the worst in human history, killed tens of millions.

Up to 60 percent of the population succumbed to the bacteria called Yersinia pestis during outbreaks that recurred for 500 years. The most famous outbreak, the Black Death, earned its name from a symptom: lymph nodes that became blackened and swollen after bacteria entered through the skin.
